Allegra D (generic name: Fexofenadine/Pseudoephedrine) is an FDA approved drug which is prescribed for the treatment of allergies including hay fever. The active ingredient Fexofenadine is a histamine H1 receptor antagonist. Allegra D is an antihistamine, which works by reducing the natural chemical histamine in the body and therefore reducing sneezing, watering eyes, runny/stuffy nose, skin rash, hives and itchy nose and eyes. The Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant and therefore shrinks the blood vessels in the nose which reduces the stuffy feeling. Allegra D may also be prescribed for the symptoms of the common cold. It is also used to treat the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis in both adults and children, and can relieve symptoms such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy nose and throat and watery eyes. Another use is in patients with uncomplicated skin problems caused by chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children and reduces pruritus and wheals. It comes in 12 hour and 24 hour relief tablets, allowing patients with allergies to enjoy the outdoors without the symptoms flaring up.
