ATROVENT Nasal Spray (Ipratropium Bromide), Ipratropium Bromide is an anticholinergic agent is prescribed for the treatment of chronic bronchitis, emphysema, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and episodes of bronchospasm. ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide) can prevent and relieve the conditions of acute asthma, shortness of breath with wheezing, rhinorrhoea and coughing. ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide) belongs to muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist that blocks the binding of acetylcholine molecules in muscarinic receptors and hence prevents smooth muscle contraction including bronchial smooth muscles, alveoli and air way muscles. ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide) is prescribed with salbutamol and nebulizers for fast relief of symptoms.
Who should not take ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide)?
ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide) is contraindicated in the patients with blocks in gastrointestinal system, narrow angle glaucoma, weak immune system (immunocompromised host), paradoxical bronchospasm and problems in urination/urinary retention with or without urine infections. If you are allergic to Ipratropium and/or to atropine and its analogues, you should not use ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide). You should not use ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide), if you are taking drugs such as anti-cholinergic drugs, methylxanthines, tea, coffee, alcohol, other bronchodilators, oral or inhalation corticosteroid. ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide) is classified as a Pregnancy Category – B drug and you should avoid ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide) when you are pregnant, because it can harm the unborn foetus. The serious and the common side effects of the ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide) are urinary retention, narrow angle glaucoma, skin rashes, edema in the face and extremities, paradoxical bronchospasm, stomatitis, blurred vision, increase heart beats, increased GI motility with diarrhoea, hypotension with palpitation, profuse sweating, corneal edema, pruritis, dry and painful eyes, sore and painful throat, taste changes and halo vision.
How should I take ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide)?
The recommended dosage for the ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide) 0.03% is at a dose of two sprays (42 mcg), per nostril two or three times, daily with total dose 168 to 252 mcg per day. ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide) can be administered alone or along with the Corticosteroid inhalations or oral corticosteroids, that is used for the synergistic effect with the ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide) to get the beneficial results in the breathing problems. - Inhale ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide) exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.
- When using the first dose, press the canister twice to test the device and to remove the artefacts, if any.
- It is important to rinse your mouth with water or brush your teeth after using ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide).
- Avoid spraying ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide) in eyes.
- ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide) can be taken with or without food.

- Do not use similar inhaling medications, with out Physician’s advice, while you use ATROVENT NASAL SPRAY (Ipratropium Bromide).
