BOTOX (OnabotulinumtoxinA) which is also called as Botulinum Toxin type - A is prescribed by the physicians for the treatment of upper limb spasticity, cervical dystonia (neurological movement disorder of neck and shoulders), blepharospasm (abnormal twitching or contraction of the eyelid), upper motor neuron syndrome, strabismus (improper alignment of eyes), achlasia, wound healing, TMJ pain disorders, vaginismus, moderate anal fissures and severe underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis). BOTOX (OnabotulinumtoxinA) is also prescribed in the cosmetic medicine for the reduction of facial wrinkles. BOTOX (OnabotulinumtoxinA) is derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum that secretes neurotoxin can block the acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter. Botulinum toxin can block the neuromuscular activities that can cause paralysis.

Who should not take BOTOX (OnabotulinumtoxinA)?

BOTOX (OnabotulinumtoxinA) should not be prescribed for the patients with any type of convulsive disorders, dysphagia, bleeding disorders, recent infections, coronary artery disease, persistent facial muscle weakness, and facial reconstructive surgery, recent medical history of BOTOX injections for any treatment, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), myasthenia gravis, surgery in the near future, bronchial asthma and emphysema.
