FLOMAX (Tamsulosin), an alpha-Adregenic blocker is prescribed by the physicians for the symptomatic treatment in the male patients with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) acts by relaxing the arteries and veins and also the muscles thereby increase the blood flow in the bladder and the prostate. FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) can facilitate the urinary flow rate and decrease the urinary retention, urgency, nocturnal enuresis and painful micturition in the patients with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) may be sometimes used as ‘off-label use’ for the removal or the passage of the urinary stones with alpha antagonism principle of smooth muscle relaxation in the bladder.

Who should not take FLOMAX (Tamsulosin)?

FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) should not be prescribed for the patients with Liver disease, congestive heart disease and Kidney diseases. If you are taking drugs for the existing diseases like anti-HIV retroviral drugs, anti-depressant drugs, immunosuppressant like the Cyclosporine, Cimetidine, blood thinners like the Warfarin, anti-protozoal drugs like metronidazole, Calcium channel blockers like verapamil and other heart disease medications like Dilitiazem, antibiotics like ciprofloxacin, erythromycin and Clarithromycin, anti-fungal medicines like Ketoconazole and other self-medications like herbal, vitamin and mineral supplements, you should not take FLOMAX (Tamsulosin). If you are known allergic to FLOMAX (Tamsulosin), you should not take it with out consulting the Physician. According to Food and Drug Administration (FDA), FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) is classified as a Pregnancy Category – B and there is no scientific evidence that it can harm the unborn foetus. The recommended oral dosage for the FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) is 0.4 mg daily. For those patients who fail to respond to the 0.4 mg dose after 2 to 4 weeks of dosing, the dose of FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) capsules can be increased to 0.8 mg once daily, but only after the advice of the Physician. The following instruction should be followed to take the FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) – 0.4 mg oral dosage daily: (1) Take FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) at least one and half hours after the food intake 2) Take FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) while you are sitting or standing up. 3) Take FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) with 6 to 8 ounces (about 1 cup) of plain water. Do not take FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) with any other drink besides plain water. Do not take FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) with coffee, tea, juice, milk or other dairy drinks. 4) Swallow FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) as a whole. Do not chew the tablet or keep FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) in your mouth to melt or dissolve. After taking FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) you must wait at least 30 minutes BEFORE: 1) lying down. You may sit, stand, or do normal activities like read the newspaper or take a walk. 2) Eating or drinking anything except plain water.

Keep taking FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) for as long as your health care provider tells you to do so. To treat your problems or keep you from getting these symptoms, you have to take FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) as often and in the way FLOMAX (Tamsulosin) as prescribed by your Physician.
