LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) is a Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitor drug (SSRI) that inhibits the uptake and utilization of Serotonin by the nerve cells to spare the neuro-chemical for the utilization in brain and its activities. LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) is prescribed for the treatment of anxiety disorders, panic attacks, major depressive disorders, social phobia, post-traumatic stress disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorders. The availability of serotonin to the brain can revert or delay the progression of the disease. LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) is also prescribed for the treatment of bulimia, obesity and schizophrenia.
Who should not take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine)?
You should not take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine), if you have problems such as liver or kidney disorders, suicidal thoughts, psychiatric history of drug abuse, convulsive disorders with or without depressive-maniac disorders. LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) is contraindicated in patients taking drugs such as MAO inhibitors, theophylline, beta-blockers, thioridazone, haloperidol, tizanidine, alosetron, muscle relaxants, sleep medications, acetaminophen and caffeine, grape-fruit juice, aripiprazole, opioids, alcohol and tobacco. If your age is more than 24, you may need an adjusted dose or psychological counselling before taking LUVOX (Fluvoxamine). According to Food and Drug Administration, LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) is a Pregnancy category – C drug and it should be avoided in gestation. No significant research reports available about the safety of LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) in breastfeeding. If you are allergic to LUVOX (Fluvoxamine), you should not take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine). Sometimes, LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) can cause serious hypotension, skin allergy and hypersensitivity and it is less common.
How should I take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine)?
The daily recommended dosage for the LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) differs with each of the medical conditions. The daily recommended dose of LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) is 50 – 300 mg daily. An initial dose of 50 mg can be increased to 100 mg after one week of treatment and then gradually up to 300 mg or according to the patient’s requirement. But the dose should not exceed more than 300 mg/day and it should be given in divided doses. The following instruction should be followed to take the LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) – 50 – 300 mg (Daily): (1) You can take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) anytime disregard of food intake. 2) Take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) while you are sitting or standing up. 3) Take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) with 6 to 8 ounces (about 1 cup) of plain water. Do not take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) with any other drink besides plain water. Do not take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) with coffee, tea, juice, milk or other dairy drinks. 4) Swallow LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) on a whole. Do not chew the tablet or keep LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) in your mouth to melt or dissolve. After taking LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) you must wait at least 30 minutes BEFORE: 1) lying down. You may sit, stand, or do normal activities like read the newspaper or take a walk. 2) Eating or drinking anything except plain water.
Keep taking LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) for as long as your health care provider tells you. To treat your medical problems or to keep you away from these problems, you have to take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) as often and in the way LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) as prescribed.
What should I know before I take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine)?
- Take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.
- If you experience abnormal suicidal thoughts or any other similar behaviour, you need to inform your Physician.
- LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) can be taken with or without food.
- For LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) dosage one must follow his doctor's instructions.
- It is important to take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) regularly to get the most benefit, as directed by the Physician.
- Do not consume alcohol and refrain smoking habits while you take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine).
- You should not take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) 14 days before and after taking MAO inhibitors to prevent the adverse drug reactions.
- Do not stop taking LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) without first talking to your doctor, even if you are feeling well. Even after your symptoms improve, you may require continuous treatment for quite some time, as directed by the Physician.
- Limit or cease the habit of drinking coffee, cocoa beverages and tea.
- Do not abruptly stop taking LUVOX (Fluvoxamine).
- LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) can impair your ability of judgement. Do not drive vehicles or play outdoor games.
- Store LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) as per the instructions on the label and keep away from children and pets.
What happens if I miss a dose of LUVOX (Fluvoxamine)?
Take the missed dose of LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) as soon as you remember, during the same day. If you do not remember until the next day, skip the missed dose and take LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) next day as routine dose. Do not take a double dose of the medication.
What happens if I overdose of LUVOX (Fluvoxamine)?
If you experience fainting, lack of coordination, nausea or vomiting, it may be a symptom of LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) overdose. In case of LUVOX (Fluvoxamine) overdose, try to seek emergency medical attention immediately.
