MOBIC (Meloxicam) is a Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug (NSAIDs) that is prescribed to treat inflammation and pain in rheumatoid arthritis and osteo-arthritis. MOBIC (Meloxicam) acts on the prostaglandin metabolism and inhibits both of the Cyclooxygenase pathways (COX 1 & 2). Prostaglandin is one of the important pain mediators and MOBIC (Meloxicam) can effectively antagonize the formation of the same. MOBIC (Meloxicam) can reduce the pain, reddening and swelling in the affected joint(s). MOBIC (Meloxicam) is also prescribed to treat fever and as an analgesic.
Who should not take MOBIC (Meloxicam)?
MOBIC (Meloxicam) is contraindicated in patients with pre-existing medical bleeding and clotting disorders, recent medical history of heart surgery in particular, coronary artery by-pass graft, liver and/or kidney diseases, gastritis, ulcers or perforations, hyperacidity, esophagitis, high blood pressure, epilepsy, asthma and nasal polyps. If you are a smoker, you should not take MOBIC (Meloxicam). You should not take MOBIC (Meloxicam), if you are taking drugs such as captopril, enalapril, furosemide, cimetidine, any NSAIDs including Aspirin, alcohol, cholestyramine, Colestipol, warfarin, ramipril, any potassium-sparing diuretics and ACE inhibitors. MOBIC (Meloxicam) should be avoided in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy. In pre-clinical research, it is suggested that it can cause early foetal valve closure problems. According to Food and Drug Administration, MOBIC (Meloxicam) is classified as a pregnancy category – D drug. If you are a nursing mother, you should consult your Physician before taking MOBIC (Meloxicam).
MOBIC (Meloxicam) Side Effects:
MOBIC (Meloxicam) can cause gastric or duodenal ulcers, perforations, asthma like symptoms, blood vomit with cough, black or brown or red coloured stools, jaundice like symptoms, skin reactions including pruritis, rashes and hives, thrombosis, heart attacks with stable or unstable angina, decrease in platelet count and INR values and increased bilirubin and liver biomarker enzymes.
How should I take MOBIC (Meloxicam)?
The daily recommended dose of MOBIC (Meloxicam) is 7.5 mg and it can be increased to 15 mg, according to the requirement. The following instruction should be followed to take the MOBIC (Meloxicam) – 7.5 mg (Daily): (1) You can take MOBIC (Meloxicam) preferably after food intake to reduce the incidence of drug-induced gastritis. 2) Take MOBIC (Meloxicam) while you are sitting or standing up. 3) Take MOBIC (Meloxicam) with 6 to 8 ounces (about 1 cup) of plain water. Do not take MOBIC (Meloxicam) with any other drink besides plain water. Do not take MOBIC (Meloxicam) with coffee, tea, juice, milk or other dairy drinks. 4) Swallow MOBIC (Meloxicam) on a whole. Do not chew the tablet or keep MOBIC (Meloxicam) in your mouth to melt or dissolve. After taking MOBIC (Meloxicam) you must wait at least 30 minutes BEFORE: 1) lying down. You may sit, stand, or do normal activities like read the newspaper or take a walk. 2) Eating or drinking anything except plain water.
Keep taking MOBIC (Meloxicam) for as long as your health care provider tells you. To treat your medical problems or keep you away from these problems, you have to take MOBIC (Meloxicam) as often and in the way MOBIC (Meloxicam) as prescribed.
What should I know before I take MOBIC (Meloxicam)?
- Take MOBIC (Meloxicam) exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.
- You can take MOBIC (Meloxicam) preferably after the food intake to reduce NSAID-induced peptic ulcerations.
- For MOBIC (Meloxicam) dosage one must follow his doctor's instructions.
- It is important to take MOBIC (Meloxicam) regularly to get the most benefit, as directed by the Physician.
- If you are taking MOBIC (Meloxicam) more than a week, perform bleeding and clotting tests regularly.
- Limit or cease you alcohol intake and also smoking habits.
- Do not stop taking MOBIC (Meloxicam) without first talking to your doctor, even if you are feeling well. Even after your symptoms improve, you may require continuous treatment for quite some time, as directed by the Physician.
- Store MOBIC (Meloxicam) as per the instructions on the label and keep away from children and pets.
What happens if I miss a dose of MOBIC (Meloxicam)?
Take the missed dose of MOBIC (Meloxicam) as soon as you remember, during the same day. If you do not remember until the next day, skip the missed dose and take MOBIC (Meloxicam) next day as routine dose. Do not take a double dose of the medication.
What happens if I overdose of MOBIC (Meloxicam)?
If you experience asthma like symptoms, nausea or vomiting, gastritis and upper abdominal pain or burning sensation, it may be a symptom of MOBIC (Meloxicam) overdose. In case of MOBIC (Meloxicam) overdose, try to seek emergency medical attention immediately.
