MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) is an ACE-inhibitor that is prescribed for the treatment of hypertension with or without renal damage and heart failures. MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) is administered with other drugs like diuretics and digitalis.

Who should not take MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium)?

You should not take MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium), if have medical history of angioedema or if you in dialysis, electrolytic imbalance, collagen disorders like SLE, liver diseases, congestive heart failures, rheumatoid arthritis and drug allergy to fosinopril or perindopril group of drugs. MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) is contraindicated in pregnancy and it is classified as a Pregnancy category – D drug. If you are lactating mother, you should consult the doctor before taking MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium). Avoid taking MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) while you are taking drugs such as potassium losing or sparing diuretics, lithium, potassium supplements, salts with high potassium contents and even some of the OTC vitamin supplements.

MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) Side Effects:

MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) can Hypotension, orthostasis and azotemia (retention of nitrogenous wastes in the blood), skin rashes with reddening and peeling, dizziness, fainting, cough, persistent diarrhoea, weight gain, stuffy nose with flu like reactions including breathing problems, abnormal stomach and chest pain with swelling in the lips, eyelids and tongue, and jaundice like skin reactions, changes in urination, irregular heart beats, body pain and respiratory infections. Some of the rare and serious adverse events of MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) may vary from one person to another.

How should I take MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium)?

The recommended dosage for the MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) is 10 mg daily. MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) can be administered alone or along with thiazide like diuretics. The following instruction should be followed to take the MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) – 10 mg (Daily): (1) Take MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) first thing in the morning before you eat or drink anything except plain water. 2) Take MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) while you are sitting or standing up. 3) Take MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) with 6 to 8 ounces (about 1 cup) of plain water. Do not take MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) with any other drink besides plain water. Do not take MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) with coffee, tea, juice, milk or other dairy drinks. 4) Swallow MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) on a whole. Do not chew the tablet or keep MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) in your mouth to melt or dissolve. After taking MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) you must wait at least 30 minutes BEFORE: 1) lying down. You may sit, stand, or do normal activities like read the newspaper or take a walk. 2) Eating or drinking anything except plain water.

Keep taking MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) for as long as your health care provider tells you. For MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) to treat your BPH or keep you from getting BPH, you have to take MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) as often and in the way MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) as prescribed.

How should I take MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium)?

  • Take MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.

What happens if I miss a dose of MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium)?

Take the missed dose of MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) as soon as you remember, during the same day. If you do not remember until the next day, skip the missed dose and take MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium) next day as routine dose. Do not take a double dose of the medication that may lead to serious life threatening complications.

What happens if I overdose of MONOPRIL (Fosinopril sodium)?
